Chesley Real Estate and Homes for Sale

As a real estate agent who specializes in Chesley, let me be your guide to what Chesley Ontario has to offer as a neighbourhood to finding homes for sale in the area.

With the motto “The Nicest Town Around”, you can’t go wrong looking for a home in Chesley. Located in the municipality of Arran-Elderslie, the town originally grew around the mills and was built on the Saugeen River around 1858. A fire destroyed most of the wood buildings in the downtown core in 1888, which were replaced with brick and stone construction. Today, Chesley’s downtown core contains several retail and personal service shops, including a number of major franchises, while more shopping is just a short drive away in either Hanover or Owen Sound.

Chesley is known for its statue of Big Bruce on the north end of town, a symbol of the area’s prime beef farming. Built in 1976 to commemorate the hosting of the International Plowing Match, the statue has been featured in several films and photo shoots.

Chesley continues to have a strong agricultural focus and has its own Agricultural Society which operates the annual fall fair and the Chesley and District Horticultural Society is perfect for residents with a green thumb. There is also a growing arts community in the area. The Chesley Community Players perform year-round at the Bijou Theatre and other arts events take place regularly.

A network of trails spans a large part of the town and its waterside parks, making Chesley a walker’s paradise. The Chesley Community Park on the Saugeen River is a great family destination with an outdoor swimming pool and a splash park, a skateboard park and playground equipment. Baseball diamonds and tennis courts are available for the active athlete.

Home to the South Grey Health Centre, which offers 24-hour emergency service, and both primary and secondary schools, Chesley is a family-friendly community with a real country feel. Whether you’re looking for a solid older brick Victorian or a bungalow in a new subdivision, you’re sure to find the home of your dreams in Chesley.
